22 and 23 May 1941. The weather conditions worsened; it became hazy and rainy. In the thickening fog, the Bismarck had turned on one of its rear floodlights as a fog light for the following Prinz Eugen. At this time the battle group was already just short of the Denmarck Straits, the northernmost sea route to the North Atlantic. |
