The Sea Trials and Final Outfit
15 September 1940 the Bismarck leaves the Blohm & Voss shipyard in Hamburg for the first time. She's heading for the Baltic Sea for sea trials and battle exercise. 16 September 1940 the Bismarck arrive at the Holtenauer sluice.
This photograph of the Bismarck was taken in 1940 during her trials in the Baltic Sea. At 23 October 1940 for the first time the machinery of the Bismarck was ready to be tested at high speed. The Bismarck reached a top speed of 30,8 kn.. This picture shows the Bismarck at high speed.
The Bismarck returns up the Elbe 8 December 1940 to complete her yardwork at Blohm & Voss in Hamburg. Her rangefinder cupola and radar antenna have been installed above the foretop, but the cupola has not yet been mounted on top of her forward fire-control station.
