Operation Sizilien (6 - 9 September 1943)
This photograph shows Scharnhorst (left) and Tirpitz (right) prior in March/July 1943 during their sea trials before the operation "Sizilien". Tirpitz changed her paint scheme before Operation "Sizilien".	This photograph, taken from Tirpitz, shows Spitsbergen during the attack 8 September 1943.
8 September 1943: Operation "Sizilien", the deployment of a powerful German naval force against Spitsbergen. The burning Barentsburg is seen from Tirpitz's foredeck.
