Admiral Graf Spee in Montevideo, Uruguay. It arrived at 13:00 (local time) Wednesday 13. December 1939 seeking for sanctuary.

A nice stern view of Admiral Graf Spee. Notice the eagle and the Swastika on the hull. The Germans removed these symbols from their ships at the outbreak of the war, except Admiral Graf Spee that still had it when it was scuttled. This because it left Germany 21. August 1939, 12 days before the war broke out.

Admiral Graf Spee leaves the harbour in Montevideo on her last short voyage, 17. December 1939. She was scuttled in shallow water just outside the Uruguayan territorial waters, about 7 kilometers from the harbour.
